I must say that the narrator is impeccable. I'm also glad to see Favian back from the past series, now as a main character. This book contains heavy spoilers from the past series and even if it's said to work as a standalone series, I somewhat disagree. I'd say that too many of the characters, first crafted in The Horse Mistress series, would feel confusing or without personality, without their character build from the previous 4 books.
