Bland story, flat characters and quite slow. Reader ok, good at doing accents.

An interesting read with a great setting, i enjoyed it! However it is not exactly what the publisherâs summary describes. I wouldnât call this a thriller, the suspense is moderate (not a bad thing, I enjoyed the pacing!). The majority of the book consists of character development with different points of view in the past and present. The tone and commentary on human nature are both reminiscent of Lord of the Flies and Picture of Dorian Gray. The death that is described in the summary does not occur until the second half of the book. If you are looking for a sunny tropical setting, with forced proximity between characters with many secrets, a slow burn gradual reveal of these secrets, and some action at the conclusion, I would recommend this book for you! Content warnings: grief (family deaths from car accident, cancer).
