“Someone told Bima that if he gets a special kind of water and bathes in it he will become invulnerable in the Bratajuda war against Sujudana. So he climbs a mountain, fights giants and crosses the sea in his quest to find a guru. His mystical journey is filled with magic and wonder, but will he gain the power to save his people? ”

Based on Javanese cultural legends, Look Within (Lihat Ke Dalam) is an example of Indonesian Wayang Puppet Theatre. In 1890, 32,965 Indonesians from villages in Central and East Java immigrated to Suriname. These people make up the largest migration of Indonesians outside of Southeast Asia. Their culture and stories contribute to the multicultural diversity of the Caribbean.

Look Within (Lihat Ke Dalam) is written, produced and performed by Obediya Jones-Darrell with narration read by Sara Riyanto. Obediya first traveled to Java, Indonesia in 1998 where he performed in a Gamelan orchestra, the music accompaniment for Wayang puppet theatre. Wayang puppet theatre was inscribed in 2008 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO).
